Randy Sollenberger, Ph.D.

Randy Sollenberger is an engineering research psychologist with the Human Factors Team-Atlantic City and a Project Leader for Air Traffic Operational Concepts Human Factors Research. He obtained his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Toronto in 1993. Since joining the FAA in 1996, Dr. Sollenberger has conducted human-in-the-loop simulations on advanced ATC concepts including shared separation, dynamic resectorization, digital voice and data link communications, and decision support automation. He has also conducted research in controller performance measurement including behaviorally-based observer ratings, controller situational awareness, and controller workload.
He is currently investigating human factors issues in the collocation of the User Request Evaluation Tool (URET), Traffic Management Advisor (TMA), and Controller-Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC) at the controller’s workstation.
