Vicki Ahlstrom
Vicki Ahlstrom is an engineering research psychologist with the Human Factors Team-Atlantic City and the technical lead for Technical Operations Human Factors research. Vicki came to the Federal Aviation Administration in 1998 directly from graduate school at Vanderbilt University where she was studying experimental psychology. At Vanderbilt, her research focused on visual perception, publishing papers on topics such as the perception of motion, biological motion, and binocular rivalry. Since joining the FAA in 1998, she has produced more than 23 publications on areas such as auditory alarms, communication and coordination, visual symbols, and errors.
Although she is the lead for Technical Operations Human Factors Research and much of her research is focused on Technical Operations, one of the projects she is best known for cuts across domains. The Human Factors Design Standard is a set of human factors design criteria. In 2003, Vicki received a Safety award from the FAA Research and Acquisitions (ARA) organization for her contributions on the Human Factors Design Standard. This was the only individual award in the Safety category that year.
