The Problem

The National Airspace System Human Factors Group has conducted research on aerospace human factors issues, mainly in the Air Traffic Control and Technical Operations Human Factors domains. Over the years, the people who are in charge of operations and programs change and may not be aware of research that may be beneficial to them. This can lead to a duplication of research that has already been conducted, or uninformed decision-making. The dissemination of human factors information has been traditionally accomplished by mailing out technical notes. The problem that was facing our group was how to increase information dissemination while reducing costs.

The Solution

The Human Factors Team-Atlantic City, has created a CD ROM containing its human factors technical notes. The technical notes contained on the CD represent more than 20 years of publications. The CD allows users to access the technical notes in PDF format through an HTML index. Technical notes are organized by date, author name, title, keyword or phrase, or through a user-defined full-text search. The CD ROM has the benefit of costing a fraction of what it would cost to print and mail hard copies of the technical notes. An additional benefit to the CD ROM is that the user may be made aware of research that they did not know existed, increasing the reach and benefit of the research conducted by the National Airspace System Human Factors Group.
