Abstract
This report presents the results of the second year’s effort in a three year project to study the role of memory in air traffic control activities. The goal of the research is to improve controller performance of tasks where memory is a critical element. The specific goals of this research were to identify memory aids currently in use and to explore the techniques that controllers use to manage memory. This work is part of a larger effort of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to identify and to reduce the incidence of factors associated with operational errors.
