Abstract
This standard establishes and defines requirements for performing human factors engineering in the design, development, and acquisition of systems. It has been generated for use by all organizations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), but primarily for program offices performing acquisition. It describes human factors activities and outputs necessary for a successful acquisition. However, not every requirement in this standard may be applicable to every program or every acquisition. Thus, the level of analysis, breadth, and depth of human factors engineering tasks should be appropriate to the size, criticality, and intended use of the system. The standard was written to accommodate a wide range of products, from small equipment items to complex systems. It is complementary to other standards documents such as the HF-STD-001.
